I usually tend to do baby photography sessions in your home, but over the last two years I’ve found that outdoor baby photos can also be relaxed and create beautiful images. Diana & Jamen asked me to capture some photos of them as a family with their little boy Harrison who was just 6 months old. We headed to Queens Park, their favourite local park, and found quiet spots to lay out a picnic blanket, park benches to sit on and pretty trees to walk between.
Even though I was taking outdoor baby photos, I was still able to capture the mix of baby portraits, family photos and those little details like tiny toes and curled fingers that I aim to create in an at home sessions. If you’re considering outdoor baby photos I’d recommend bringing a thick, warm picnic rug and enough cozy clothes to keep everyone warm. A smaller blanket is helpful for keeping baby warm while photographing little hands and feet, and furry slippers for warming up toes afterwards! It’s always nice be able to include some favourite toys – for Harrison this meant Paddington Bear and a soft furry grey elephant. And of course in cold weather a furry onesie is great – I loved Harrison’s tiger outfit complete with ears!
I hadn’t visited Queen’s Park before – I always love it when a family introduce me to a new part of London. Set among the quiet Victorian and Edwardian streets in North West London, the park has a bandstand, flower gardens and a playground.
